1. Find your energy supplier and open your account
When you move into a new home, energy bills start from day one. If you do not contact the supplier quickly, you may receive large or wrong bills later.
What to do: Read the Ofgem guidance on getting energy when you move home, then find out who supplies gas and electricity to your property and contact them. Give opening meter readings and set up an account in your name.
What do you need: You need your move in date, full address and meter readings and any letters from the previous supplier.
Outcomes: You will have an energy account in your name with correct starting readings and clearer monthly bills.
Lifehack: Take clear photos of all meters on the day you move in so you can prove the readings if there is a dispute.
2. Find your water company
3. Register for Council Tax
