1. Get Your Child's Birth Certificate
Schools and some benefits require an official birth certificate to confirm your child’s age and identity. Copies from your home country may be needed.
What to do: If your child was born in the UK, use the GOV.UK service to order an official copy of their birth certificate. If they were born abroad, contact the authority in that country or your embassy to obtain a certified copy.
What do you need: You need your child’s full name, date and place of birth, and in some cases details of the parents.
Outcomes: You will have an official birth certificate that you can show to schools, councils and other services.
