1. Apply for a school place
If you have a child, they may not get a place in your preferred school if you apply late. Rules for applications are different in each area.
What to do: Use the GOV.UK school admissions page to learn how to apply through your local council. Follow the council instructions, complete the online form and attach any documents they ask for, especially if you arrive during the school year.
What do you need: You need your child details, your address and any proofs the council lists, such as proof of address or previous school records.
Outcomes: Your application will be in the system and the council can offer a school place as soon as one is available.
Lifehack: Check and note any deadlines for your childs age group at the start so you do not miss key dates.
2. Find your local council and local services
3. Gather school admission proof
