1. Ask the council for homelessness help
If you are homeless or close to losing your home, it can feel very stressful and confusing. Councils in England have duties to look at your situation and explain what help is possible.
What to do: Go to the GOV.UK page about homelessness help from the council and read what support they can offer. Use the site to find the right council and contact them as soon as you can by phone, online form or in person.
What do you need: You need your personal details, information about where you stayed in the last weeks, and any letters or notices about leaving your current home.
Outcomes: You will start a homelessness help case so the council can assess your situation and explain the next steps.
Lifehack: Write down the name, date and time of each contact with the council so you have a clear record of what was said.
2. Learn what emergency housing can look like
3. Use shelter or advice services for support
